APA Pool League

A Night In An APA 8-Ball Pool League...

A coin flip determines which team picks a player to shoot the night's first match. A player is chosen and announced to the opposing team. The opposing team then decides who on their team is best suited to play that player and the match is set.

Every APA player is assigned a "skill level". This skill level lets the teams know the playing ability of each player on both team rosters. A player's "Skill Level" also dictates the number of games that player must win in order to win their match. Teams use this information when picking a player to shoot a specific opponent. A handicap chart can be found on the scoresheet and is used to determine the number of games each player must win in a match.

Once both players are chosen, the match is started and the players race to be the first one to win their assigned number of games. The first player to win the assigned number of games claims the match for their team.

With the match decided, the process is repeated with teams alternating who puts up a player first in each of the remaining four matches.

National Qualifier Team Championship

The official APA League Year starts with the Summer Session, is followed by the Fall Session, and ends with the Spring Session.

After the Spring Session is over, a National Qualifier Tournament is held to determine which teams will advance to the APA National Team Championships in Las Vegas.

The National Qualifier Team Championship is held at The New Green Room in June/July of each year. The event is actually two tournaments, a $115,000 APA 8-Ball Championship and a $60,000 APA 9-Ball Championship. This event will normally cover two weekends. If you qualify in either the Summer, Fall, or Spring Tri-Cups, you become eligible to compete in the APA National Qualifier.

HOW MANY TEAMS COMPETE? HOW MANY ADVANCE?

Seventy-two 8-Ball teams and thirty-six 9-Ball teams compete in our local APA National Qualifier. The National Qualifier is a “modified double-elimination” tournament which advances twenty-three 8-Ball teams and twelve 9-Ball teams to the Vegas Nationals each year.

Players on each of the Vegas Qualifying teams will receive their share of the APA Travel Assistance Fund ($5,000 per team - which is to be used for travel assistance to Vegas to participate in the APA National Championships). Runner-up teams will advance to the Valley Forge Challenge.

VALLEY FORGE CHALLENGE FOR RUNNER-UPS

If your teams doesn’t make it to Vegas, you still have a shot at some big money and some more fun. Each year, we will send nine runner-up 8-Ball teams and five runner-up 9-Ball teams to the Valley Forge Challenge (a three day APA team event held in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania). This event is currently being sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic APA League Operators. We will continue to sponsor our local teams in this event for as long as the event is being offered. Teams are responsible for their own transportation and lodging, however we will be providing each team with $300 in travel assistance. We will also cover all entry fees and green fees.

As a member of the APA pool league you can earn various patches for performance. These patches are awarded to individuals as well as teams. Check out the descriptions of just some of the currently available pool patches that you can win.
